Voidborn

Warped by the Void

Wielders of Secrets, Crusaders of the Cosmos

Origins

The Voidborn are no longer what they once were. Long ago, they were human—residents of thriving cities on the Earth Realm. But when the Great War tore through the fabric of existence, these cities were pulled into the Void, a realm of endless night and cosmic mystery. The transition was no mere displacement; it was a metamorphosis.

Bathed in the Void’s alien energies, their bodies were irrevocably altered to thrive in its unnatural depths. Voidborn now exude an eerie beauty, their skin glowing softly in shades of deep violet, pastel pink, and shimmering crimson. Their hair gleams like starlight, and their features, with sharp ears and angular elegance, are both familiar and unsettling.

What truly sets the Voidborn apart, however, is their connection to the Void itself. It pulses within their veins, granting even the least of them a spark of innate magic. For the gifted, this bond becomes a source of tremendous power, making them natural sorcerers and masters of cosmic forces. To the Voidborn, magic is not learned—it is remembered, as if they carry fragments of the Void’s will within their very souls.

A Brief Voidborn History

The Rise of Salaboth and the Saints
Amid the darkness, a leader emerged—Salaboth, a brilliant tactician and unyielding warrior. She was joined by the Four Saints: champions who embodied celestial ideals—Comets, Moons, Stars, and the Sun. Together, they led the survivors in a desperate struggle against the terrors of the Void, confronting eldritch abominations and existential despair.

The Bargain with Yog-Sangoth
As their plight worsened, the Four Saints made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives to hold the line against the horrors. Alone, Salaboth sought out Yog-Sangoth, the God of Secrets, and struck a terrible bargain. In exchange for eternal life and power to save her people, she offered her soul. Transformed into the Immortal Queen, Salaboth began reshaping Voidborn society.

Salaboth’s Dark Secret
Though revered as an immortal savior, Salaboth’s power hides a grim truth. She is not reborn through divine will but through necromancy. A lich in disguise, she devours the souls of her followers to transfer her essence to new bodies whenever her current form fails. Only the House of Moons knows the full extent of this deception, guarding the secret with their lives.

The Voidborn Crusade
With their new form and purpose, the Voidborn began their crusade, spreading their influence across the multiverse. They view themselves as the ultimate evolution of humanity, destined to lead lesser species. Their faith in Salaboth and the Void is absolute, and their culture prizes knowledge, discipline, and devotion above all else.

An Empire of Secrets and Fragile Faith
Despite their pride and unity, the Voidborn’s society is built on fragile foundations. Salaboth’s dark bargain looms over them, and her unholy hunger threatens to unravel their belief system. For now, they march ever forward, zealously expanding their dominion—but the price of their pact with Yog-Sangoth is yet to be fully paid.

Voidborn Culture

The Voidborn are deeply religious, zealously devoted to their faith in Salaboth and the Void. Fearful of heresy, they look down upon other cultures, believing themselves superior to all other species. Their society functions as a theocracy, with priests and scholars serving as the ruling class, dictating law and doctrine through their interpretations of Salaboth’s will. Knowledge is sacred, and intelligence is prized above all else, though martial prowess is still respected.

Blunt and to the point, Voidborn eschew secrecy and deception, believing that secrets are the tools of devils. They value directness in all conversations, and this often leads to culture shock among other races, as the Voidborn freely discuss taboo subjects such as sex, death, and racial identity without hesitation. While they see this as a mark of wisdom and honesty, others often find them unnervingly callous or even rude.

Pride is deeply ingrained in Voidborn culture. They believe that their transformation in the Void has made them the pinnacle of human evolution, and they rarely mingle with lesser species unless it serves their grand designs. Their cities, shrouded in twilight and illuminated by arcane energies, are closed to outsiders, fostering an air of mystery and isolation. Even among their own, Voidborn society is strict and hierarchical, with scholars, priests, and sorcerers reigning above warriors and laborers.

Despite their reclusive nature, the Voidborn are ever expanding their dominion, spreading their influence through calculated conquest and religious conversion. To them, knowledge is power, and power is the right to rule. While they present themselves as enlightened beings, their empire is built upon the rigid control of information, and dissent is met with swift and merciless reprisal.

House of Moon: The Arcane Keepers

The smallest and most enigmatic of the Voidborn Houses, the House of Moon stands apart, shrouded in secrecy and arcane mastery. Unlike their militant kin, they do not march to war in grand crusades nor preside over the governance of the Empire. Instead, they are the scholars, the occultists, and the soul-weavers—Voidborn whose very existence is tied to the ebb and flow of the immaterial realm.

The mages of the House of Moon are reclusive, retreating to their grand towers and isolated sanctuaries in the Void Cities of Isyh Shererth. Within these towering labyrinths of shifting staircases and whispering shadows, they conduct their forbidden research, delving into eldritch magics, soul alchemy, and necromantic arts that even their own kind view with suspicion.

Leadership and Authority: The Keepers of the Sacred Truth

At the heart of the House of Moon lies the Keepers of the Sacred Truth, an ancient and cryptic council who govern not only their house but also the knowledge too dangerous for others to wield. To the Voidborn Empire, they are seers and custodians of the arcane—but to the other Houses, they are heretics who dance too close to the abyss.

The Keepers are the only ones who know the ultimate truth: Salaboth the 11th is not merely immortal—she is a Lich. Her reincarnations are not mere blessings of the Void but a carefully orchestrated sorcery—a bargain with forces unknown to sustain her existence across ages. This truth is locked away, buried beneath layers of deception, known only to the House of Moon.

Many whisper that the true purpose of the Keepers is not merely the guidance of their house, but the preservation of Salaboth’s essence. They alone know the price of her bargain.

They alone know what would happen if it were ever broken.

Forbidden Magic and the House’s Dark Legacy

The House of Moon has long walked the fine line between sanctuary and sacrilege. Their expertise in soul manipulation allows them to weave the very essence of the Voidborn, binding them to new forms, creating constructs of thought and will, and even resurrecting the fallen.

Some whisper that the House of Moon does not simply study souls—they harvest them.

It is said that their Archmages do not die. Rather, they shed their bodies like skins, stepping into new vessels—a perverse mimicry of Salaboth’s own reincarnation. Such practices have drawn the scrutiny of the Inquisition, whose zealots in the House of Comets have long sought to dismantle their ‘heresy.’

A House on the Brink of War

The tension between the House of Moon and the House of Comets has burned for centuries. While the House of Comets sees itself as the righteous flame of the Empire, the House of Moon is a smoldering ember, full of dangerous knowledge and eldritch whispers.

Were it not for Salaboth’s direct intervention, a civil war would have already erupted. The Inquisition has intervened numerous times, halting rituals deemed too blasphemous, burning tomes of dark knowledge before they could spread.

Yet the House of Moon endures.

For the Queen protects them, despite their secrets.
For she has need of them, despite their heresies.

And for that reason alone, they remain untouched—feared, but necessary.

The Moon’s Hidden Purpose

Many outside the House wonder:

Why does Salaboth permit their existence?
What does she see in them that no one else does?

The truth, as always, lies in whispers.

Some believe the House of Moon is the key to her continued rule, that they alone sustain her existence.  Others claim they are her insurance, should the Inquisition ever turn against her.

But the most disturbing rumor suggests something far worse That the House of Moon is not merely keeping secrets. They are preparing for something. Something even Salaboth fears. Something that slumbers beyond the Void. And when it wakes, only the House of Moon will understand the price to be paid.

House of Comets: The Torch Bearers

The House of Comets is known for its unwavering loyalty and unshakable faith in the Voidborn Empire. Its members are the most zealous of all Voidborn, consumed by devotion to their Queen and her higher purpose. They believe in absolute order, purging corruption with fire and steel. To serve is to ascend; to doubt is to betray. The House of Comets is both the sword and the flame of the Voidborn, ensuring purity through relentless judgment.

Leadership and Authority: The Inquisition

The Inquisition is the governing body of the House of Comets, ensuring the absolute faith of the Voidborn. They act as both prosecutors and judges, rooting out heresy and doubt wherever it may lurk. Their word is law, and their judgment is final. When the Voidborn are accused of treason, it is the Inquisition that passes sentence, their methods as relentless as they are severe. No crime is greater than questioning the divine rule of Salaboth.

Doctrine and Philosophy: The Burning Creed

The House of Comets lives by The Burning Creed, a sacred doctrine etched into the very souls of its members. It is not simply a belief—it is the fire that fuels their existence.

Members of the House of Comets brand these tenets into their flesh, marking themselves with glowing celestial scars—each a vow taken in blood and fire.

The Black Star Edicts (The Inquisition’s Laws)

The Inquisition does not merely judge the Voidborn—they purify them. They rule by the Black Star Edicts, absolute laws dictating the fate of any who stray from the path.

When an Inquisitor arrives, their judgment is final. There are no trials, no appeals—only fire and death.

The Shattered Dawn Schism (The Civil War That Never Happened)

The House of Comets does not forget.

Centuries ago, a high-ranking Inquisitor, Vareth the Bright believed Salaboth’s reincarnations had been tampered with. He accused the House of Moon of corrupting the process, claiming that Salaboth was no longer the true Queen—but an imposter, a hollow shell bound by foul sorcery.

His fanatics rose up in secret, seeking to "purge" Salaboth herself.

The Inquisition acted before rebellion could take hold. Vareth and his followers were hunted, silenced, erased from history.

The records of The Shattered Dawn were purged, and it was decreed that no one would ever speak of the heresy again. Any whispers of Vareth's claims are met with immediate execution.

Yet… rumors persist. Some say that not all of the Shattered Dawn were destroyed. Some say that they still exist, hidden in the far reaches of the Void, waiting for the day when the Inquisition's blind faith finally shatters.

Significance and Legacy

The House of Comets holds immense power due to its deep connection to Salaboth. Seven of the last eleven reincarnations of Salaboth have belonged to this House, strengthening its influence within the Voidborn Empire. This connection has made the House of Comets both revered and feared.

The House of Comets contains three highly sought-after positions:

House of Stars: The Watchers in the Dark

The House of Stars is composed of those who possess only faint traces of the Void within them. While they lack the raw destructive power of the House of Comets or the arcane mastery of the House of Moon, they are deeply attuned to the ebb and flow of the Void, able to sense the unseen forces that shape reality. They are the spies, the infiltrators, the silent hand that guides the Voidborn Empire’s influence across the multiverse.

Where the House of Comets purges heresy with fire and steel, the House of Stars ensures it never takes root to begin with. Where the House of Moon bends the Void to its will, the House of Stars listens to its whispers, deciphering its secrets. They do not seek to rule, nor do they seek glory—only knowledge, control, and the quiet assurance that the Voidborn Empire will endure forever.

Leadership and Authority: The Starstones

The enigmatic Starstones serve as the ruling council of the House of Stars. Unlike the zealous Inquisitors of the House of Comets or the sorcerer-lords of the House of Moon, the Starstones are not chosen for power—but for their intellect, adaptability, and ability to see beyond the present moment.

The Black Constellation

Among the agents of the House of Stars, none are more feared or respected than the Black Constellation—a shadowy order of spies, assassins, and manipulators who operate beyond the knowledge of even the highest Voidborn authorities.

To be chosen for the Black Constellation is both an honor and a curse. Those inducted into its ranks cease to exist in the eyes of the Voidborn Empire. Their names are struck from records. Their families forget them. They become whispers—tools to be used and discarded.

The House of Stars ensures that the Voidborn Empire does not rule only by fire and conquest, but by influence and control. Their agents have infiltrated royal courts, religious orders, criminal syndicates, and academic institutions across the multiverse.

Few know the full extent of the House of Stars’ influence, and that is exactly how they want it. For while the other Houses fight and burn, the House of Stars simply watches, waiting for the moment when they must decide the fate of all things.

House of Sun: The Unyielding Legion

The House of Sun is the largest and most structured of the Voidborn Houses, forming the foundation upon which the Empire’s power rests. Unlike the House of Comets, which eradicates heresy, or the House of Moon, which seeks forbidden knowledge, the House of Sun ensures the stability, efficiency, and expansion of the Voidborn domain through internal perfection. Their reach extends beyond the battlefield—they dictate the order of cities, direct the flow of labor and resources, and ensure that both the war machine and civilian infrastructure run without flaw.

To the House of Sun, conquest is not merely military—it is the relentless refinement of civilization. Strength is more than force of arms; it is the ability to shape society into an unbreakable engine of supremacy. Every city, every citizen, every institution is but another piece in a vast and calculated order. There is no room for inefficiency, no tolerance for disorder. Every Voidborn has a role, assigned by the House of Sun, and to deviate from that role is to invite destruction.

The Unyielding Flame: Discipline and Doctrine

At the core of the House of Sun lies the Unyielding Flame, a doctrine that elevates order, strength, and absolute obedience above all else. The Voidborn are destined to rule, but destiny is meaningless without structure. To fulfill their purpose, the Voidborn must purge weakness from within and without. Hesitation breeds inefficiency, and inefficiency leads to failure. The House of Sun does not acknowledge failure—only corrections to ensure success.

Every facet of Voidborn society is subject to the Unyielding Flame. The Commissars Tribunal assigns laborers where they are needed, ensures that cities meet their quotas, and eradicates incompetence before it festers. Farmers and manufacturers toil beneath their gaze, miners carve deep into the void’s veins, and scholars refine the sciences—not for personal ambition, but for the Empire. If a sector underperforms, it is restructured; if a people resist, they are cleansed.

For the Voidborn themselves, the House of Sun’s authority is absolute but tempered with the promise of ascension. Those who prove their worth rise in station, granted greater responsibilities within the Empire. They are not commanded by fear but by purpose, the knowledge that they serve a perfect system that rewards excellence. But for those beyond the Voidborn, there is only submission or annihilation. The House of Sun does not negotiate with lesser civilizations—it absorbs, reshapes, or eradicates them.

The Commissars Tribunal: Absolute Authority

At the helm of the House of Sun is the Commissars Tribunal, a council of high-ranking overseers who dictate every aspect of Voidborn infrastructure, governance, and military expansion. They are not merely generals; they are judges, architects, and executioners of the Empire’s will.

Each Commissar is assigned dominion over a sector of the Voidborn Empire, overseeing the production, distribution, and enforcement of quotas within their territories. They are the unshakable hand of order, ensuring that every city produces exactly what is required, that every citizen fulfills their role, and that nothing is wasted—be it resources, manpower, or potential. The Tribunal does not tolerate inefficiency, and sectors that fail to meet their quotas face severe consequences. Those who serve loyally are rewarded with stability. Those who falter face reassignment to the most grueling tasks—or eradication, should failure persist.

While Commissars rule with supreme authority, their power is not unchecked. To maintain perfection, the Tribunal itself is subject to constant scrutiny, ensuring that even the highest ranks are not immune to judgment. A Commissar who proves unworthy is not demoted but purged, for only those who embody the Unyielding Flame may dictate the future of the Voidborn.

Governance and Supremacy: The Engine of Civilization

The House of Sun is not merely a war machine—it is the beating heart of the Voidborn Empire. Every city, every fortress, every industrial sector exists in accordance with their grand design. No system functions without their hand to guide it.

The House dictates the movement of entire populations, shifting labor forces to meet demand. It decides which territories are worth integration and which must be razed. It is through their unyielding governance that the Voidborn Empire does not merely survive—it thrives.

For the Voidborn, the House of Sun is a beacon of order, discipline, and purpose. It is through them that every citizen finds their place, through them that every advance is made, and through them that the weak are discarded so the strong may flourish.

For those outside the Empire, the House of Sun is an unstoppable force of conquest and assimilation. They do not entertain rebellion. They do not accept resistance. Those who cannot be made to serve will be erased.

To serve the House of Sun is to forsake the self in favor of the greater whole. The Voidborn are destined to reign, and under the Commissars Tribunal, the Empire will remain eternal, unchallenged, and absolute.

Perspective: A Paladin's Oath

I stand before Inquisitor Telval with my head held high, my heart burning with the fire of the Witch Queen’s pride.
This is the moment I was born for.

Here, in the hallowed halls of the Inquisition, beneath the ever-watchful gaze of the Void, I, Axillia of the House of Comets, daughter of Paladins Valan and Astrilla, swear my eternal oath.
I bind my heart, my soul, my very essence to Salaboth the Everlasting.
For the glory of the Voidborn, I pledge my very soul.

“I swear by the celestial fire that burns within me, I will stand at the frontlines, unyielding. My blade is for the Queen, my heart is for the Empire, and I shall strike down any corruption that dares to strangle the light of our people.”

When I speak the words, the power of faith surges through me, an unstoppable tide that drowns out all doubt.
There is no hesitation. No fear.

Only certainty.

Every breath, every heartbeat, is now hers.
Every action, every strike, every sacrifice—hers.

I am no longer merely a soldier.
I am an instrument of her will.

And the thought fills me with pride so vast, it could swallow worlds.
To serve her is the highest honor the cosmos will ever know.

I have heard the whispers.

The faithless call her a monster, a tyrant, a lich.
Blind fools.

They cannot fathom her purpose. They cannot comprehend the grandeur of her design.

She is the knife-edged blade that will cut away the rot of the old world.
She is the guiding flame in the cold expanse of the Void.
She is the truth. The only truth that matters.

Every battle, every conquest, is a step toward the Empire’s final ascension.
And I—I—am honored to wield my sword in her name.

When we strike, when we bring ruin to those who stand against her, I know it is justified.

They may call it tyranny, but I call it order.
They may call it destruction, but I call it purification.

The multiverse has fallen into chaos for too long, drowning in its own weakness.

Salaboth is salvation.

And those who resist?
They are blind.

But blindness can be cured.

I will burn away their ignorance with the righteous fire of the Queen’s will.

I am not blind to the weight of the Empire’s judgment.
The Inquisition’s eyes are sharp, their verdicts absolute.

Some whisper of their iron-handed methods, of their ruthlessness.
Of their purging of those who stray from the Empire’s purity.

They call it cruelty.
I call it justice.

Heresy is a festering wound.
To allow it to linger is to let the infection spread, rotting the body from within.

The Inquisition is the scalpel.
The House of Comets is the flame.

There is no room for weakness.
No space for hesitation.

When the Inquisition calls, I answer.
When the Inquisition commands, I obey.

We are the righteous.
And those who stand against us?

They will know the flame of our wrath.

“In death, I shall ascend by her side, and in loyalty, I will serve her everlasting.”

These are not mere words.
They are my life’s purpose.

I am more than a paladin.
I am a vessel for Salaboth’s will.

And when the final battle comes, when the last defiant world crumbles, when the stars themselves kneel before her—

I will stand at the frontlines, my sword raised in her name.

I will stand proud.

For I know—without doubt, without fear, without regret—

That I serve the only true path.

And that path…

Leads to ascension.
